Empowering High-Performing Women: Strategies for Balancing Success and Health

We delved into the critical topic of how high-performing women can maintain a healthy balance between their ambitious professional lives and personal well-being. This balance is not just beneficial but essential for sustained success and happiness. Read on as we expand on three key points discussed in the episode, providing additional insights and actionable tips.

1. Mastering Time Management and Energy Allocation

High-achieving women often juggle multiple roles, making time management and energy allocation crucial skills. The core principle is understanding that time is a finite resource, but energy can be replenished and optimized. Here’s how:

  • Prioritize Ruthlessly: Identify your most important tasks and allocate your best hours to them. This might mean tackling the most challenging work project early in the morning or setting aside evenings for family time without distractions.
  • Use Tools and Techniques: Utilize time-management tools like digital planners or apps that help track and allocate your time effectively.
  • Mindfulness and Self-care: Incorporate mindfulness practices like meditation or yoga into your routine. These practices not only provide a mental break but also enhance overall energy levels and focus.

2. Navigating Unique Career Challenges as a Woman

Women in leadership positions often encounter specific challenges, such as gender bias or balancing assertiveness with empathy. Overcoming these requires:

  • Building a Supportive Network: Connect with other women leaders who can offer advice, support, and mentorship. Networks, both in-person and online, can be invaluable resources for sharing experiences and strategies.
  • Developing a Personal Leadership Style: Embrace your unique qualities as a leader. This might mean leading with empathy, focusing on collaborative problem-solving, or leveraging your emotional intelligence.
  • Continuous Learning and Adaptation: Stay informed about trends in your industry and invest in your personal development through courses, workshops, or coaching. This not only enhances your professional skills but also boosts confidence.

3. Maintaining Mental Well-being and Resilience

Mental health is as important as physical health, particularly in high-stress environments. To keep your mental well-being in check:

  • Establish Healthy Boundaries: This could mean setting specific work hours, having ‘no email’ periods during evenings or weekends, or learning to say no to additional commitments when your plate is already full.
  • Seek Professional Help When Needed: There’s no shame in seeking help from a therapist or counselor. Professional guidance can be instrumental in navigating complex emotions and stressful situations.
  • Practice Self-Compassion: Acknowledge your achievements and allow yourself grace during challenging times. Remember, it’s okay not to be perfect, and it’s okay to ask for help.

The journey to balancing professional success with personal well-being is unique to each individual. It requires a blend of self-awareness, strategic planning, and the courage to set and maintain boundaries. By mastering time management, navigating career challenges with resilience, and prioritizing mental health, high-performing women can create a fulfilling and sustainable path to success. Remember, true success encompasses both professional achievements and personal happiness. As we continue to explore these themes in our podcast, we invite you to join the conversation and share your own experiences and strategies. Together, we can build a community of empowered, balanced, and thriving women leaders.

3 Sassy Ways Women Crush Consistency Without the Stress - Episode 20

Maven Miara (00:03.722)
Hey, hey, Maven Nation, it's Maven Miara and welcome back to another episode of Success With Saneness. Today's topic that we're gonna be delving into, it's all about how do you maintain consistency without increasing those stress levels? And I'm not saying that would be something that's a walk in the park, super easy. But I do want to say it is attainable.

Now let's start with the big question. How do you even do that? How, how do you think about, I'm going to stay consistent, be a high achiever. Yes. And not increase my stress levels. Here's the first thing I want you to think about is maybe we can't do all of the things at one time altogether, but we can do them. So,

I would say one of the top ways I'm going to be sharing three is to prioritize what's most important right now. And everything cannot be important today and every day. Not not everything, not everything. If you imagine your life as a plate and there's these different portions, different servings of things on your plate.

cannot be the most important. The main entree, the sides, the dessert, the bread, all of that cannot be the most important. So I think that's the first thing is really slowing down and figuring out that priority schedule of what you have on your plate right now. What is the most important? I think that, if we don't do that part, that does increase our stress levels because what happens

we start trying to do all of the things, everything at one time. And we do feel stressed that we're not able without stressing ourselves out to do all of those things. So it becomes like a vicious little cycle. We wanna do all the things. We wanna be a high achiever. We're stressing ourselves out. We kind of probably to burn out fatigue, all of those things, we hit reset.

Maven Miara (02:31.594)
We want to be. So what's the priority? Start with that. What is the priority that you need for you, your family, your job, the things you're responsible for. What's the most important thing to get done? Okay. Get that figured out. Number two, your mental wellbeing is non negotiable. Okay.

I often say that if I am the captain of my ship, if I, the captain goes down, then who's managing my ship? Who's, who's going to do the things that I'm responsible for doing? The most important way for me to take care of myself is to make sure my mental wellbeing is non-negotiable. That's it. In high stress environments, it's easy.

to push that to the sideline or to the back burner. Resilience resilience is a muscle and that muscle like any other muscle has to be exercise. It has to be worked to say I'm going to make this muscle stronger. So don't have the fear of the threat of I've got to, I've got to do all of these things. So when you mix being mentally,

strong with this priority, you're going to be meshing those two because you're going to be able to focus, use that mental energy for the things that are the top priority. And you're not worried about, Oh man, I got to do all of these 10 things, which leaves us feeling a little bit scattered. I know it does for me, right? If I don't get that priority figured out and I'm just like, well, I have all these things to do and I'm just going to tackle them. Now my mental wellbeing is I'm cut because I'm

jumping all over the place to try to figure out the things I need to get done. And we, we oftentimes try to trick ourselves, ladies into thinking, I can do all of this and I can do it without taking time to create a priority schedule. All of these things. I don't need to set boundaries. I can do all of these things and say yes to everyone and everything. And my mental health is going to stay intact.

Maven Miara (04:57.994)
It's not. And I'm sure we've all experienced that to some degree, right? That doesn't mean you had a full mental meltdown, but we have experienced if it's nothing more than mental exhaustion, mental exhaustion from trying to do all the things. So number one, get that priority schedule figured out what, what's most important to your mental wellbeing.

that cannot be compromised to push to the back burner or just abandoned. Because again, if you are the captain of your ship and the captain goes down, then who's going to do any of that? Who's going to do any of the things that's on you to get done? So number three, let's talk about the value of rest. Okay. And I'm going to say rest.

And I'm going to say rest guilt free. I know, I know. I hear you saying it. Um, that you feel bad when you are taking time for you when you are resting. But here's one thing I want, you know, the more consistent you become with that, I believe that guilt response is going to be reduced, but you've got to push through it.

that resilience muscle again, you've got to say, I'm a big enough priority for myself, for my family, for my team that I'm worthy of getting enough rest. And that could, that rest could include a power nap. That rest could look like getting off or setting a boundary as to when you're going to stop working at the end of each day. Maybe you're not going to take your laptop to the bed.

and keep working, whatever that rest looks like for you. Maybe that's an intentional break or vacation or whatever it is. And know that when I'm saying rest and even saying things like vacation, that doesn't mean that you have to spend money, that vacation has to look like, you know, a 10 day trip in Hawaii or Fiji. That's not what that has to mean. It can mean whatever it means.

Maven Miara (07:25.602)
for you. If that's a staycation, whatever that looks like, I'm encouraging you to get proper rest, you know, and I would encourage you to just Google the value of rest. Maybe that's another episode that I'll do is talking about not just the cliche of, Oh, you need to get rest, but how important that is, especially as we start to get a little bit older, paraminopause, menopause, all the things.

of how important rest is to our bodies, to us maintaining our mental wellbeing, to keeping those cortisol, those stress levels down, to really being able to manage some of the exhaustion and tiredness that comes with just simply getting older. And as my mother used to say, the alternative to not getting older is that you stop waking up saying good morning. That means that your time is over.

And that's, I know that's not what we want. Right. So note that risk, almost look at rest is the foundation of you being successful and managing your stress in a way, um, that, that is manageable, that you can be consistent at. Okay. We want to be consistent and I encourage you to be consistent, but we can't maintain consistency.

if we're not maintaining us, these physical temples, these mental temples, all of the things that make us who we are. Okay. All of those things are important. So if you have this guilt, which I will say is fairly normal around resting, taking time for yourself, I want to encourage you to be resilient about this rest, keep pushing through that guilt and that will start to

subside, the guilt part of it. Okay, stay consistent. Maven, I hope that all of the amazing women that have joined me here today, that listened or watched this episode, that you take some time to be intentional on prioritizing what's most important to you right now. And that could look like kinda looking at that priority schedule each week for the month.

Maven Miara (09:55.058)
each day, whatever that looks like, make it a priority to figure out what's most important. Um, make your mental health non-negotiable and then make sure you're including rest, consistent rest because we need it. Like we, being a high achieving woman means you're giving a lot. That's part of our nature. You're giving a lot, but we have to maintain these amazing bodies, temples that we have. Okay. So until next time, maybe keep doing your BAM thing. Talk soon.

Honoring Sisterhood: Nurturing Bonds and Bouncing Back When They Falter

Honoring Sisterhood: Nurturing Bonds and Bouncing Back When They Falter

In the BAM (Bust A Move) and unBAM of our fast-paced lives, it can be easy to undervalue the significance of cultivating sisterhood relationships. For women, these relationships can serve as powerful allies, mentors, and friends. But here’s the twist: not all these relationships are meant to be lifelong bonds. Some, in fact, are seasonal. Let’s explore the intriguing world of sisterhood relationships, uncover why some are seasonal, and provide three key ways to foster these connections while discussing how to recover when things don’t go as planned.

The Seasonality of Relationships

Imagine your life as a garden, with various people representing different types of flowers. Some relationships are perennial, blooming year after year, while others are seasonal, bringing bursts of color and vibrancy for a specific time. Relationships often fall into the latter category. They might enter your life during a particular phase, providing essential support, guidance, and camaraderie, but eventually, their season in your life may come to an end.

1. Embrace the Essence of Seasonality

Just like seasons change in nature, so do the seasons of our lives. When it comes to relationships, embracing the essence of seasonality is crucial. Recognize that not all connections are meant to last forever, and that’s perfectly fine. I say to women, don’t view relationships like a ‘group hug’ because everyone can not and will not go with you. Some friendships serve as stepping stones, helping you navigate through a specific chapter of your life. Once their purpose is fulfilled, it doesn’t have to be a falling out or fight; it’s ok to let them go gracefully.

2. Foster Growth and Empowerment

While seasonal relationships might not last a lifetime, they can profoundly impact your personal and professional growth. These connections often serve as mirrors, reflecting your strengths and areas for improvement. They can empower you to step out of your comfort zone, offer new perspectives, and provide the support you need during crucial phases of your journey.

3. Cherish the Memories

Just because a relationship has a season doesn’t mean it lacks significance. Cherish the memories, lessons, and experiences shared during that time. These bonds contribute to the tapestry of your life, enriching your story and making you who you are. Remember that even if the relationship fades, its impact on you remains.

3 Strategies for Cultivating Relationships

Now that we’ve unpacked the seasonal nature of relationships, let’s delve into three essential strategies for cultivating and nurturing these connections:

1. Prioritize Quality Over Quantity

In today’s hyper-connected and digital world, it’s easy to accumulate a vast network of acquaintances. However, when it comes to real relationships, quality always trumps quantity. I often say my circle is small but it runs deep. Focus on a select few individuals who truly resonate with your values, goals, and aspirations. Invest your time and energy in these relationships, and you’ll find that the depth of connection and support they provide is incomparable. Maven, you don’t need a big circle to make it make sense.

2. Make Time for Meaningful Interactions

As entrepreneurs and executives, our schedules can be jam-packed with meetings, deadlines, and responsibilities. You know, the BAM life. Nevertheless, it’s essential to carve out time for meaningful interactions with your connections. Schedule regular catch-ups, whether they’re in-person, over the phone, or via video call. These moments of connection are the threads that weave strong bonds. My business besties and I have a strong text chain where all kinds of things happen – support, knowledge, encouragement, and most importantly PURE FOOLERY!

3. Support and Celebrate Each Other’s Success

In the world of high-performing women, success can sometimes feel isolating. Sisterhood relationships can be a lifeline during these times. Support and celebrate each other’s achievements, big and small. Whether it’s a new business venture, a promotion, or a personal milestone, being there for one another fosters a sense of solidarity and empowerment.

When Things Go Wrong: How to Recover

Relationships can encounter rough patches or even dissolve. Here’s how to navigate and recover from such situations:

1. Open and Honest Communication

If you sense a strain in the relationship or a misunderstanding has occurred, don’t let it fester. Engage in open and honest communication. Express your feelings, concerns, and intentions, and be prepared to listen. Often, simply addressing the issue can lead to resolution and deeper understanding.

2. Reflect and Learn

Sometimes, despite your best efforts, a sisterhood relationship or connection may come to an end. Take this as an opportunity to reflect and learn. What did you gain from the connection? What lessons can you carry forward into future relationships? Use this experience as a stepping stone to personal growth.

3. Seek Closure and Gratitude

When a close connection reaches its natural conclusion, seek closure with gratitude. Express your appreciation for the time spent together and the support received. Closure allows both parties to move forward with a sense of closure and positive memories. It can be done.

In the world of women entrepreneurs and corporate executives, relationships can be a source of immense value, support, and growth. Embrace the seasonality of these connections, cultivate them with care, and know that even if some are meant to be temporary, they can leave an indelible mark on your journey. Cherish the moments, nurture the connections, and let them empower you in your pursuit of creating success with saneness.
